The Brief

A branded fleet

Coal Services provides healthcare, insurance and rescue services to miners and the mine operators in NSW. With these varied business types, they wanted to unify and brand their fleet of vehicles. The design was to align to the updated look and feel created by Wills on their other communications collateral.

The Challenge

Unifying diversity

With such different business types, Coal Services’ vehicle types and functions vary considerably. Their Health service uses a 10m mobile health-check trailer, while their Rescue business requires a dual cab truck with custom built tray. Coal Services’ Insurance and support vehicles use typical government fleet 2WD sedans and wagons. Vehicle livery is applied by different suppliers in different locations making centralised design control key.

The Solution

Combining consistency with customisation

Consistent elements are now used across all of Coal Services vehicles including a dark blue, rhombus-shaped background, font, typography style and logo. Each vehicle type is then customised with additional design elements depending on the function required for the business. Rescue vehicles include reflective strips and red emergency Battenburg markings. The Health trailer was designed in billboard advertisement style with medical photography, icons and key services featured.
