Perspective Magazine

Rider Levett Bucknall

The Brief

Thoughtful evolution

PERSPECTIVE is the flagship magazine for global quantity surveying firm, Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB). Released bi-annually, the magazine brings together thought leadership articles from contributors around the planet focussed on different topics relevant to the changing landscape of property and construction. We were tasked with revitalising the magazine, giving it a contemporary makeover.

The Challenge

Differentiate and unify

The brief presented us with an incredible opportunity to elevate the brand design to align PERSPECTIVE closer to its premium standing. However, as a digital only magazine, this would need to be done without the support of premium paper and print techniques. Every issue was focussed on different themes so would need a unifying but distinctive brand approach. Further to this, without the budget for photographers, the stories were to be supported largely by supplied photos and stock library imagery.

The Solution

Intelligent and elegant

A new PERSPECTIVE cover style showcases striking close-ups of cutting-edge projects, focussing on building materials and architectural shapes. A large white picture-frame border has been introduced, evocative of art and design magazines. The frame technique continues inside, where an evolved layout with a flexible grid for type and photography and white spaces adds interest and scale. A bespoke magazine illustration style has been crafted using montage technique to combine photos, textures, symbols and keywords to convey complex topics.
