University of New England

The Brief

A transformative brand

Wills was chosen to create a brand identity for an ambitious, 70,000km² STEM precinct in the New England North West of NSW that will boost the economic, environmental and social future of the entire region. Wills would work closely with the UNE team and local suppliers to design communications for the full range of print, environmental and online channels.

The Challenge

The diversity of STEM_Q

The STEM Quarter (STEM_Q) uses a hub model to bring together diverse locations, participants, and industries to reinvigorate the whole region. The challenge for the new brand graphics was to break away from the clichéd farming or tourist imagery, and to find a way to visualise current and future initiatives, with a fresh and exciting STEM look and feel.

The Solution

Envisioning the future

STEM_Q is a modern, future-facing precinct. The new brand graphics combined contemporary fonts, vibrant colours, and crisp information graphics to show the region as a connected, capable and cutting-edge hub of the future. Satellite imagery was used in maps to show the large scale of the precinct, and as a visual cue to evoke GIS mapping and other technology platforms used in the region.
